The Kingless Realm Books

'The Kingless Realm' books are set in the same world as the Web Life Series, but occur in a future time period - therefore, just to clear things up now, there will be no character overlap!
The books of this series are not strictly a series - you do not have to read them in order, and each can be read, more or less, individually.  I'll update you if that changes.

The title is derived from the fact that the human realm is in a state of supreme upset: too many kinds dying without heirs has led to chaos, dubbed the Ascension Wars.  The human realm is in desperate need of a single king to tie all of the different kingdoms together before everything falls apart, but with everyone already attempting to gain power for themselves, that doesn't seem likely to happen.
The only reason that the entire economy and way of life of man hasn't gone up in flames is a secret: the Arrows of the Absent King's Quiver.  With no one king to follow, a group of the world's most skills and knowledgeable people are working in secret to keep total destruction from happening.  They will do anything and everything to raise up good kings, strike down bad ones, and protect those helpless folk deposed by war and strife.  They are Arrows - weapons to be aimed for a greater good.  No one knows them for what they are, but they are likely the most powerful force on the planet.

'The Kingless Realm' books will tell their stories, and how they work together to ultimately find, raise up, and defend The One King.

Books in the works thus far:

Two have been published:
'Wounds All Heals' is now available to buy.  Here's the scoop on what's between its covers:

‘Wounds All Heals’ tell the story of Leeik, a failed battle-mage who’s disowned because he has neither the interest nor the skills to be a fighter.  Now he is in danger of being cast out into the streets without skills or a family to support him.
Enter Bartharborus, a cranky old healer who accepts apprentices to teach them the worthy skills of a healer.  If Leeik can win his way into that apprenticeship, he’ll eventually have a way to support himself in life, a job that he already loves.
The problem?  Bartharborus is famous for chasing off every apprentice he has ever had, using a vast temper and an abusive tongue until the apprentices eventually leave.
So Leeik has a choice: learn how to ignore his hateful teacher and learn from him, or end up on the streets without a future.
And then assassins enter the picture…
For a boy with a sharp brain, a hard history, and too much curiosity for his own good, life is only going to get harder from here.

This is the first book I’ve written about ‘The Kingless Realm’ – it will introduce the secretive Arrows of the Absent King’s Quiver, and all of the chaos that entails.

The Sequel was JUST PUBLISHED Dec. 30, 2013:
'Days of the Weak' (another pun on homophones) finally survived the publishing process, with the help of my brother to design the cover.

'Days of the Weak' follows apprentice-healer Leeik Farspell, who is now settling into his role as a member (or upcoming member) of the secret Quiver.  His first task?  Try to keep a city from falling into chaos when its king falls deathly ill and his brother tries to usurp him.  If Lee can find out what's wrong with the king and save him, then hopefully the throne can be held and the city's rule stabilized.
But things aren't as simple as they seem, as Ashdown - a dangerous man whose as lethal a friend as he is a foe at times - enters the picture, near death and relaying a tail of shock and horror.  Apparently, dealing with a whole guild of assassins wasn't the worst thing that Leeik will face in his life: how, apparently, one of the oldest assassins in existence - an assassin arguably deadlier than Ashdown - has gone rogue and is loose on the streets.
Things just keep getting more complicated, and soon it becomes difficult to tell who is friend, who is foe, and even who the real enemy is.  Old characters and new come into this book, as Lee once again finds himself in the center of chaos and trying to keep himself - and everyone else - alive.

Just another day in the life of an Arrow of the Absent King's Quiver.
